What We Know About Mom

Mother’s Day is NOT Cancelled

According to a poll conducted by the National Retail Federation (NRF), 78% of people said celebrating Mother’s Day was important to them. Last year alone, Mother’s Day spending was $26.7 billion dollars and NOT just on cards and flowers. In 2020, 30% of customers looked to retailers for special offers for the holiday. In 2021, the statistics are continuing to increase: more than eight in 10 customers will celebrate Mother’s Day this year and will spend approximately $8 more on their purchase compared to last year.

One thing to note about Mother’s Day is who the gift recipients are—obviously mothers, but remember that sisters, wives, daughters, grandmothers, stepmothers, friends and godmothers are also included. Regardless of whether their day is celebrated virtually or in person, families will aspire to capture traditions and normality of Mother’s Day past. With the correct preparations, you can help lift spirits this year.

Home Sweet Comfort

She’s been home a lot more than normal. As a result, trends are indicating she would love to spruce up her house and home office. How to Offer Virtual Shopping Appointments

FaceTime:
If the customer has an Apple device, have them call you via FaceTime at their scheduled appointment time.

 

Facebook Messenger:

  1. Open the Facebook Messenger app on your phone. Tap "Chats" on the bar at the bottom of your screen.
  2. At the top of the Chats page, tap the circle that says, "Create Room."
  3. The next page allows you to invite people to your room. Tap the pencil icon in the top left corner to edit the name of your room and/or schedule your video call for later. Click “Save” once you are done.
  4. You can then copy the link at the top of the screen and send it to invitees via email, text, etc. Tap "Done" in the upper right corner once you've copied and sent the link.
  5. Your invitees can then join the room by opening the link you sent to them.

How to Organize a Mother’s Day Giveaway

  1. Decide on a budget and a prize!
    • Divide dollars up to account for ads to promote the giveaway + the prize itself.
    • Decide what the prize will be—we love giving away a gift basket/gift set, but you can also do a shopping spree, gift card, etc. If you’re doing a gift set, pick a variety of gifts any mom would love to receive this year.
  2. What are the terms?
    • How you want people to enter? One of the most popular ways is to have people like, comment and follow.
    • On Instagram, you can also ask people to tag friends in the comments as party of their entry. This will help spread the word organically!
    • Whatever you choose, make it simple/easy for people to enter.
    • Make sure to state that you will select the winner randomly.
  3. How long the giveaway will last?
    • How many days will your followers have to enter? We recommend 3-7 days, but do whatever works for you.
    • Make sure you end the giveaway enough in advance of Mother’s Day in order for the winner to claim their prize in time to surprise mom!
  4. How you will announce/notify the winner?
    • A few options: tag/respond to them in the comments, share a new post announcing the winner, message them or tag them in an Instagram story.
    • How you will give the winner their prize?
    • Make sure you include these details in the caption!
  5. Don’t forget the disclaimer!
    • Make sure to let your followers know that Facebook/Instagram is in no way affiliated with, endorsing or sponsoring your giveaway.

  6. Announce your giveaway!
    • Share it on your favorite social media platforms.
    • Take a photo of the prize.
    • Make the caption exciting! Announce what the prize it + the terms (how to enter, how long the giveaway will last, the winner will be randomly selected etc.). Ex. make “Giveaway” the first word of your caption, or even include it in the image.
    • Run ads to increase your reach (the number of people who see it).
    • Cross-promote it in emails or your website.
  7. Measure your results.
    • Once you’ve announced the winner, check and see how well the giveaway performed.
    • How many followers did you gain? Did your engagement (likes, comments) increase?

Don’t forget: Father’s Day follows shortly after! These are great options to remember for June as well.

This year, it continues to be critical for small businesses to have an online presence to reach their customers. (Consider developing an easy-to-use website if you don’t already have one.) During this holiday, it’s important to continue refreshing that online presence. Mother’s Day is one of the top three holidays that produces ‘last minute gift idea’ searches. Be prepared for last minute shoppers by offering a page on your site dedicated to the occasion itself.
