The Perfect Hot Chocolate Recipe

Posted Apr 15th 2021

When the chill of winter starts biting at our toes, there’s nothing better than curling up with a steaming mug of homemade hot chocolate.

Trading out the typical store-bought hot chocolate packets for a homemade recipe is a fun family activity for all. Here’s a recipe we love to use that you and your customers might also enjoy — you could give a copy of the recipe to everyone that buys a mug, or even have some free samples of the hot chocolate to really enhance customer experience!

(Updated Nov. 2022)

Ingredients:

  • 4 cups of whole milk
    • Choose half-and-half for a thicker, creamier hot chocolate, or skim milk for a lighter hot chocolate
  • ¼ cup of unsweetened cocoa powder
  • ¼ cup of granulated sugar
  • ½ cup of semisweet chocolate chips
    • For a more bittersweet taste, choose dark chocolate chips
  • ¼ teaspoon of pure vanilla extract

Instructions:

  • Whisk together milk, cocoa powder and sugar in saucepan over medium heat until warm, but not boiling.
  • Add in chocolate chips and whisk until chocolate is evenly distributed among mixture.
  • Whisk in vanilla extract.

That’s it! The perfect hot chocolate is ready to enjoy!

Customers will love making this recipe at home with the family, especially when they’re drinking out of DEMDACO’s beautiful and unique mugs!

You can also recommend making some homemade whipped cream to bring the creaminess to the next level. Serve it up on one of DEMDACO’s serving sets for an extra festive feel!

To really bring the hot chocolate experience to the next level, you can suggest a topping buffet!

They can make the drink exactly how they want it with a wide array of toppings. These are just a few ideas to complete the drink with:

  • Marshmallows
  • Candy Cane crumbles
  • Caramel sauce
  • Chocolate drizzle
  • Chocolate chips

We recommend serving up these delicious toppings in one of DEMDACO’s serving sets
